How To Pack/Travel light- For a city break

Now, I am certainly no expert, not the best start to a blog, I know; I am always complaining about forgetting something, wishing I had bought that item that in my head seemed it would change my entire wardrobe. BUT  with the amount that I travel I have mastered a few hacks that I wanted to pass on. Having just got back from Berlin (Blog to follow soon), I wanted to share some ideas with you.

Mostly likely you are working with hand baggage allowance which doesn’t leave much room but for a few days, even up to a week in some cases, it’s all you need to pack the absolute essentials. It always takes the hassle our of the traveling part, which makes the over all experience more enjoyable.

Short and sweet, here are my tips on- How To Pack/Travel Light For A City Break.

A trusty holdall. 

I absolutesb2507_blackly swear by my Sweaty Betty holdall. I bought the original holdall which I believe is still available but, pictured here is a beautiful alternative- the Union Jack Hold All. The carry straps go comfortably over your shoulders and fit like a back pack if you have to lug it around town or the extended strap is ideal. It is really spacious and there is even a section for your laptop. Again, I am all about that Sweaty Betty lifestyle. If I am doing anything outdoorsy then of course it’s my Vaude day packs. However for traveling and exploring a new city, my Sweaty Betty all sports backpack is that one item I worship like a total geek. I am rarely seen without it off the mountain. Whenever heading on a city break I am always sure to take my converse; to go sight seeing, chilled park hangs and matching with a cute dress to head out for drinks! Stress free packing.

I am one of those people that has always LOVED wearing my sunglasses. I mean, I was bullied for ever little thing in high school, even down to the fact that when it was sunny, guess what- I wore sunglasses. I digress. I am never without my sunglasses and I recently picked up a few awesome pairs on ASOS. They look similar to the Ray Ban round metal frames but without the price tag.

Think simple for your #OOTD

My mum always jokes that I have no idea what I am doing if I am not wearing layers of back country clothing. Truth is, I have always had a very distinct sense of style. I love sports luxe. Probably why I love Sweaty Betty so much but pairing basic sport pieces with the odd statement item like a patterned jacket. That’s why whenever I am traveling on a city break I think simple. My face statement leggings with a loose fit T or simple a basic light cotton jumper and a cute skirt. Plus my converse of course. It never fails!

Vegan Protein Vanilla Snow.jpgI stick by a few simple tips that I wanted to share them with you.

  1.  Smoothies are the best way to start the day. I am not talking a skinny girl smoothie, I am talking a no holes bared, nutritious and deliciously packed smoothie. I go for a few different combos but my top 2 are: 1, Stippd Protein (my fave is chocolate) with one or two bananas depending how hungry I am, cacao powder, almond milk and Chia seeds. It’s thick and keeps you going until lunch (plus chia seeds are naturally gelatinous, that help flush toxins from the body). Bare in mind this is my pre workout smoothie, it gives you energy so make the most of it, ski, snowboard or head for some activity! 2, Green smoothie with one large granny smith apple, 1 kiwi, a 3inch cut of cucumber, wheatgrass powder, macha powder and coconut milk. You can feel this smoothie doing you the world of good and it’s awesome!
  2. Stock up on root vegetables. It worth it for me to drive an hour down the mountain to head to Aosta as there are some incredible supermarkets where the variety of fruits and veggies is almost like at home. I like to batch make soup on a windy and cold afternoon, a little bit of culinary therapy is really relaxing for me. I loved my latest concoction of beetroot and potato soup; Its warming and really good for you. Try something like parsnip and sweet potato or carrot too!
  3.  Mountain snacks!- I learnt a killer recipe from my pals of raw vegan flapjacks that keep really well and make the best mountain treats. In a bowl, I place the Strippd lean protein, ground coconut, cacao powder, peanut butter, coconut oil, maple syrup and add nuts or raisins if you like. Once you have thick paste you can squash it all into greased tubawear and cut into slices. Just imagine-mid cable car, everyone is starving for an energy boost and you bust out this absolutely mouth-watering treat and help get your friends once step closer to the reality that vegan eating is just amaze balls!

Along the way, I have met them, known them and learnt from them and that is what is truly beautiful. These days, it’s so easy to become competitive and see every female as a “threat”, this notion is ridiculous to me. We should cheerlead one another to ensure that no matter where you are at in your life that you recognise an achievement of your fellow women, then you will surely find that you begin to feel empowered and encouraged. Tijn is an absolute babe! She has long since been one of my favourite freeride buddies. She has taught me to push myself further, workout harder, eat better and strive to reach my potential. Tijn thinks I am totally crazy and is always there to keep me grounded. I trust her with my life, you get to feel this way when you ride back country with someone you trust, you know they have your back! I am so glad to know Annika! This season I knew I wanted to find a gal I could ride back-country with, a gal that I could share the amazing experience of freeriding with. Plotting lines, laughing, talking and looking after one another. Although the snow conditions have not yet offered Annika and I the best conditions, I am over the moon she will be killing it in the Freeride World Qualifiers this year! She will be making her debut in Chamonix, a resort she knows well. She rides like a total bad ass and she slays on the daily. This season will be epic as we get to share it together! Marte has been a pal of mine for a few years now and I am so glad to know her. She has been a really generous and all round top gal to have around. I have competed with her a few times and every time I was so impressed. Marte has such a wonderful attitude to life and to riding; relaxed, happy and ready for any feature that comes her way. Now Kjersti, although I have not had the pleasure to know her in person, she is someone I look up too. For years I have followed her snowboarding journey from freestyle to freeride and everything in between. She is killing it at life. Kjersti oozes positivity and good vibes, even through the medium of social media, I love reading about her outlook on life and how she rides day to day. Kjersti is another cheerleader for women and I love to see that, if she inspired me, she will surely be inspiring others to feel empowered through snowsports! Alexa is so cool! Alexa started one of the best blogs I know, “Still Stoked”. The message behind the blog is incredible, sharing stories, talking to amazing women in the extreme sports industry and spreading the love. Mirte!- What a gal, she is killing it. Mirte is the editor in chief of Taste Magazine which is a gnarly awesome snowboard publication. Mirte is also the sickest content producer, she has a real eye for photography. Mirte is a kind hearted and lovely person to be around, when I met her in Verbier a few years ago, I felt instantly at ease in her company, I guess that’s is a natural side effect of hanging around with someone who is the definition of chill!  Follow her on Instagram.
